Various national store chains and local businesses have brought back plastic bags for their customers after the Texas Supreme Court ruled against any plastic bag bans in the State.

Chain stores such as Wal- Mart, Lowes and other businesses have once again brought the bags back and are now available for customers to use while shopping.

Businesses within city limits stopped using the plastic bags due to a plastic bag ban ordinance that the city had put in place since January 1, 2017.

A few weeks ago the Texas Supreme Court ruled against any plastic bag ordinance in the state including the ordinance passed and being enforced in Eagle Pass.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton addressed the issue with a statement letter. “I am writing to ensure that your city is aware of this ruling and know that you're ordinance is now unenforceable”

The Eagle Pass City Council recently addressed the Supreme Court ruling. The City acknowledged the high courts’ decision but asked that the community take into consideration, continuing with other options than to return back to using plastic bags.

The Eagle Pass City Council asked that the business community and residents voluntarily continue promoting and practicing a ban on plastic bags for the betterment of our environment and our city’s aesthetics which was seen since the ban was set in place.

While many businesses and community members have mixed feelings on the issue others are now returning back to provide the bags for their customers.
