Congressman Hurd and City Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu welcomed a group of individuals, grant writers and organization representatives from Dimmit, Zavala, La Salle, Maverick, Kinney, Uvalde and Val Verde counties. “We’re glad to see you here. We write so many support letters for grant applications and the question is always how can we be more helpful?” said Hurd.
Hurd explained that on a yearly basis there are always millions of dollars that are left behind and not taken advantage of due to lack of grant applications for some of those funds.
“In 2015 alone a billion dollars was left on the table. And guess what, I know plenty of ways we could put those monies to work out here in South Texas,” added Hurd. Mayor Cantu thanked Privett and Congressman’s Hurd’s office for holding the informational conference in our community.
“We always look forward and welcome such partnerships where important information is shared,”said Cantu.
Hurd presented Susana Privett from the U.S Census Bureau who would be conducting the informational forum. Privett presented information and assisted grant writers, nonprofit
representatives, local and county government representatives on how to utilize the census data to aid them during their grant writing process.
