Company representatives presented details for the project, which includes the development of a micro refinery complex, logistics center, and long-term build-out plans for the area.
Mexiship is enthused about being able to get this project off the ground which would bring industrial jobs into the community.
Up to now, Mexiship has begun site selection discussions for the energy complex core component/ micro plant which will produce key refined products such as diesel, gasoline, and petroleum products for export to Mexican markets. The site being looked at is 600 acres west of the Dos Republicas Coal mine area.
Rolando Ramon, of Mexiship Ocean, stated during his presentation that energy reform in Mexico is creating new opportunities for international markets along the border, like in Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras. “ The core element of the project is the distillation plant. This is a 6,000 barrel per day separation plan. That’s our core component. We will try to get to 20,000 to 24,000 barrels per day. Within the first year. We have to work on the logistics on how to get it down to Mexico, where we have the need for it,” said Ramon.
Ramon added that the different modular components would allow the company to provide a variety of fuels.
The project could help drive future economic growth and more importantly jobs in both Maverick County and Piedras Negras.
Phase 1 of the project will focus on regulatory permits and approvals from local and federal government including a presidential permit to export natural gas, refined products, and installation of a dark fiber trunk.
Mexiship Ocean International LLC is planning to build a 20,000 barrel-perday
distillation plant. The total investment for this project is forecasted above $750 million.
The project is anticipated to create 500 to 750 jobs during construction and 50 to 60 full - time permanent jobs. “We’re in the development phase right now,” added Ramon.
