The 2018 Maverick County Democratic Primary Election was one for the ages ending with one of the closest political races seen in county history.

Decided on a runoff election recount which was sparked by a narrow twelve vote difference between incumbent Judge David Saucedo and Rudy Bowles.

The recount went on most of the day on Tuesday, June,5,2018 ending at 5pm when all votes had been counted except for four votes that are to be reviewed by the visiting Judge and determined legal or not and for whom.

At the end of the recount requested by Bowles, Judge Saucedo’s slim lead increased by another eight votes found by the manual count.

Saucedo ended the electoral process with 3,955 including the eight votes found and Bowles total remained the same as he had come into the recount at 3,935. Saucedo’s reelectio to the position can be declared although the recount totals are prelimi nary and must be canvassed including a decision on the four remaining votes.

Saucedo can be declared the official winner after that final process is officially administered.

Bowles has one more possible legal action which is an attempt to contest the election as allowed by law. This action can only take place if it’s determined that the request for a contest fits certain guidelines required to open up an election contest claim.

Judge Saucedo will be administered the oath of office in January.
