United States Representative Will Hurd and Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu held a congressional art competition winner’s reception at the Eagle Pass Public Library to celebrate Eagle Pass High School student Keanna Saucedo on Tuesday, May, 29.

Mayor Cantu and Congressman Hurd congratulated Saucedo on her artwork and thanked her for participating in the yearly art contest.

On May, 11, 2018, Congressman Hurd announced that Miss Keanna Saucedo of Eagle Pass, Texas had been selected as the winner for the 2018 Art Competition.

Saucedo’s art piece is titled Beyond the Riverside and will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Saucedo also is traveling to Washington, D.C. for the Winners’ Reception this June.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation. The competition began in 1982 and today, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 23rd District, which encompasses 29 counties and 2 different time zones from San Antonio to Socorro, TX

Saucedo’s winning artwork depicts the natural landscape of the Rio Grande River in between her hometown of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Mexico.

Congressman Hurd congratulated all the participants and stated that “Beyond the Riverside” suggests, the friendship between folks in Texas and Mexico along our Southern border. “I’m glad my colleagues in Congress and the hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world who visit our nation’s Capitol will get to see this glimpse of TX-23 through Keanna’s art,” stated Hurd.
