In the hotly contested Democratic run-off election, the early voting count indicated
Saucedo had 2,938 votes or 52% and Bowles was running second with 2,742 votes or 43 %.
Of the 5,680 votes cast during the early voting period, there was only 196 votes separating the opponents.
After the final count of votes was transported to the Maverick County Courthouse by the Texas Department
of Public Safety the the final day of voting totals were then tabulated.
In total there were 8,023 votes cast in the run-off election.
Bowles has stated that he will more than likely ask for a recount that must be presided by Democratic Chair
Person Luis A. Ruiz as per election law.
Saucedo ended the night with 3,947 votes or 50.08 % of the votes and Bowles had 3,935 votes or 49.92%,
a difference of only 12 votes.
Saucedo was declared the winner in the County Judge run-off election.
In the other local races being contended incumbent County Commissioner Rosy Cantu was declared the winner with 937 votes (52.23%) against Arianna Perez’s 857 votes or (47.7%).
In the Justice of the Peace Pct.2 race, first -
time candidate Rossana”Roxy” Rios (1,020 votes or 57.69%) beat out incumbent J.P Dora Madera who had
a respectable 748 votes or (42.31%).
In the Justice of the Peace Pct 3 Place 1,
election newcomer Domingo “Mingo” Rodriguez won the election with 1,237 votes or 60.02% against incumbent J.P David Castaneda who garnered 824 votes or 39.98 % of the votes.
The voters of Texas have nominated two openly lesbian, Latina
candidates for the right to go up against their male Republican counterparts. Gina Ortiz Jones will be running
against Republican United States Representative Dist. 23 Will Hurd in the November
general election. Lupe Valdez also won the Democratic nomination to vie for the Texas governorship against
incumbent Greg Abbott.
