EPISD Communications Specialist Danielle Byrne welcomed those in attendance and proceeded to give information about both athletes and their success as runners at the high school level.
Eagle Pass High School Principal John Cox congratulated and honored the athletes and coaches for their hard work and achievements.
Nathan Kowalski will be attending Lynn University in Florida.
EPISD Athletic Director Ed Graf also congratulated both students for their commitment and hard work.
Coach Juan Gonzalez also spoke of both students.“ I’m going to really miss you both.The most distinct honor is to get your college education paid for and you both are about to achieve that,” said Coach Gonzalez.
Rivera will also move on to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Both Rivera and Kowalski thanked their coaches for their patience and being part of their lives throughout their high school sports career.
Kowalski achievements include 3 time state qualifier, No. 3 all time in the two mile run locally, 2-time district champion in the 1600 and 3200.
Rivera holds the record for the 800, 1600, part of the record holder team for the 500 meter relay, 5-time district champion in cross country and track. Rivera is the only girl in school district history to triple crown by winning the 800, the one mile and cross country in the same year.
