Mancha the current Board President has been on the board since 2006 serving 3 four year terms and is seeking re-election. Junfin was elected in 2014 and is going for his second four year term. Two other candidates are seeking a position including Jimmy R. Hobbs and Lupe Cardona. Hobbs sought election in 2012 but came up short with only 39 votes. The top two vote collectors in this election will be elected and sworn in on Tuesday May 8 at 5 pm at the MCWCID regular monthly meeting.
The MCWCID No. 1 Board of Directors gets paid $100 a meeting of which Mr. Mancha, Gabriel Garcia, and Juan Garcia do not collect. It is unknown if the remaining members collect the attendance stipend .
Polling places during election day will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The poll sites include No. 1: (For voters with irrigation accounts in central area only) MCWCID No. 1 conference room; 1622 Maverick Industrial Park Road, Polling Place No. 2: (For voters with irrigation accounts in Quemado area only) Kirchner Elementary School Gym; Crockett Street, Quemado, Texas, and Polling Place No. 3: (For voters with irrigation accounts in El Indio Area only) MCWCID No. 1 El Indio, Tx Shop.
Only those qualified voters who are registered with the District and meet the requirements will be eligible to vote in this election.
Early voting closed down this week and only 125 votes had been cast.
