Cuellar presented EPISD fifth grader Miranda Almaguer who presented an Earth Day message. “ In 1908 U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt said that a people without children would face a hopeless future and a country without trees is almost as hopeless. He wanted the children and their children to become the earths trustees. Today my generation have become the earths trustees.”
President of the Eagle Pass Rotary Club Sandra Ruiz spoke of the importance of giving back to the environment in any way possible.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu welcomed all in attendance and led a group of students from the Eagle Pass Independent School district in the ceremonial planting of the first tree of many that were planted all across the city in numerous parks as a symbol of giving back to the environment.
“It is a day of political action and civic participation where people march and meet with the governmental leaders and most importantly they plant trees. They clean up their towns and roads. Earth day shall remind us about what we all share, the same planet.Sharing the Earth is taking responsibility for using it and how we use it.” said Cantu.
The City of Eagle Pass thanks the organizations who donated all the trees planted on that day including Jorge Cavazos and the Green Company, Eagle Pass Parks and Recreation Department, and the Eagle Pass Rotary Club.
