Gyselle Rangel and Destiny Sukue torched the nets early with two 3 pointers in the first quarter to take a 11-4 lead early.
A suffocating defense led by Ashley Cruz, Silvy Salazar and Karyme Marquez kept Floresville Jaguars best players Angel Rosas #15 and Madison Clark #24 to eight combined points on 4/25 shooting, while forcing 17 turnovers off of them. The Lady Mavericks forced a total of 34 turnovers, with 22 of them coming off steals.
The Mavericks, led by Gyselle Rangel on the offensive end, were able to outscore the Jaguars 7-2 in transition, and 15-5 off turnovers.
The Mavericks currently sit in first place alongside Southside (1-0) and McCollum (1-0) in District 29-5A.

Winn Girls Basketball played theirfirst district road game at Uvalde. The crowd was fired up for the opening night district game. Started off tight in the first quarter with Destiny Sukue hitting an open 3, and player of the game Karyme Marquez driving it inside at the buzzer.
Second quarter saw our defense continue to focus on their best player,#12, who ended up going 0/12 for the night, including 0/9 from 3 point range. She was held to zero points throughout the contest. Gyselle Rangel led the way in offense throughout the game with 10 points. Karyme Marquez hit a buzzer beating 3 to send the Mavericks up by 11 to Halftime.
The third quarter saw Ashley Cruz and Silvy Salazar continue to dominate on defense, Ashley finished with 10 steals while Silvy finished with 7 blocks. As a team, the Lady Mavericks finished with 24 steals and 15 blocks, forcing Uvalde to 36 turnovers. The Mavericks were able to convert those turnovers into 22 points.
The fourth quarter saw the Mavericks put the nail in the coffin, closing out on a 12-6 run with Ana Lopez and Carla Guillen contributing to the score sheet with a combined 5 points.
The Lady Mavericks will next travel to McCollum on Friday, and will tip off at 6:30 pm.
