An Eagle Pass Police Officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after it was determined it was traveling 12 miles per hour above the posted speed limit on Garrison Street Thursday, December 28 at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Investigating officers made contact with the driver who was identified as 29-year-old Daniel Cantu of Eagle Pass. A computerized inquiry on Cantu’s personal data revealed his driver’s license was suspended. While speaking with Cantu, officers noticed three clear plastic baggies containing a white powder in plain view on the passenger seat of the vehicle. The powder was field tested and confirmed to be cocaine, Cantu was placed under arrest and later presented before a magistrate where he was formally charged with driving with an invalid license and possession of a controlled substance. Cantu was remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a combined $4,000 bond and issued a traffic citation for speeding.
