Ruiz was accompanied by a group of supporters, friends and family members as he announced and took his oath, filing the proper documentation to contend for the commissioner position that he has held for the past four years.
Ruiz was originally appointed to the position by Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo on March 15, 2013 after former commissioner Cesar Flores resigned.
Ruiz then went on to run for the position against four candidates in 2014, which included now Maverick County Democratic Party Chair Luis Alfonso Ruiz, former Eagle Pass Pass Fire Chief and Maverick County Road and Bridge Director Guadalupe Cardona, and local school teacher Rosie Leos.
Commissioner Ruiz came out victorious during that election.
Commissioner Ruiz has also served as the county judge’s assistant and county treasurer for a brief time before being appointed to the commissioner position.
Commissioner Ruiz is a U.S. Marine Veteran and former school teacher for many many years.
Ruiz had previously been a County Commissioner back in the mid 1990’s.
