Head Coach Tom Gonzalez along with 26 of his players, including District 29-AAAAAA Offensive MVP DeeAndre Torres and District 29-AAAAAA Defensive MVP Sebastian Hernandez, were honored by the committee in a big way: the Eagles were all over the Most Outstanding and First Team All-District Selection page.
The first, and certainly one of the most dangerous players on the First Team Offense, was Wide Receiver Albert Guevara, who topped off his season with a touchdown against the Edinburg Vela Sabrecats last week in Laredo. Right alongside him was teammate, and to this reporter All-World, All-Purpose, Jack-Of-All-Trades Slot Receiver Jose Riojas, who handled the punting and kicking chores for the Burnt Orange and White. Riojas was also named First Team All-District Punter for his efforts this season.
Another News Gram Player Of The Week who made the First Team was Tackle Tito Villarreal along with Guard Jorge Guardado and Center Jose Laguna.
On First Team Defense, Defensive End Moi Rocha made the cut along with standout Linebacker David Kypuros, Cornerback Joshua Monsivais and stellar Safety Ryan Chisum.
Outstanding Wide Receiver Rey Rey Mendoza topped the list of Second Team Nominations along with Slot Receiver Norby Zavala. Eagle Guard Ray Galindo also made the Second Team All-District Offense.
Defensive End Mario Torres, Inside Linebacker Haran Rodriguez and Outside Linebacker Armando Monsivais were nominated for Second Team Defense for the Eagles.
The Eagle Defense received a total of six players who were honorably mentioned. Nose Tackle David Santos, Defensive Tackle Manny Rodriguez, Cornerback Raul Lechler, Safety Nico Moyeda, Linebacker Roger Ulloa and Safety Kristian Barcena.
Quarterback Richie Luna, Offensive Tackle Alex Martinez and Wide Receiver Ralph Guerrero also received Honorable Mention on Offense.
