BEDC Launches Three New Programs

The City of Eagle Pass BEDClaunched three new leadership development programs on November 1, 2017. 

These programs are:BEDCInternship Program,BEDCLeadership Eagle Pass, and BEDCExecutive Leaders Mentorship (ELM).  These three new programs all encompass leadership and service to the community.  Each program is uniquely tailored to achieve different priorities to help create an informed and highly developed leadership group that will support the economic growth in the community and region.

BEDC Internship Program - Continuing in its spirit of collaboration, the City of Eagle Pass BEDC will partner with private, nonprofit or government entities to form a coordinated city-wide internship/fellowship program.  This internship/fellowship program is available for a qualified college student majoring in Business, Communications, Education, Engineering, Healthcare, International Business, Marketing, Political Science, Government or Public Policy from Southwest Texas Junior College or Sul Ross State University, who has completed their Junior year.  College graduates will be considered “fellows” and undergraduate students will be considered “interns.”  Chosen interns/fellows will work with a participating business, nonprofit, or government entities in support of the Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development Committee (BEDC) and under the supervision of the partner agency.  This unique opportunity will expose the intern/fellow to hands on real-world professional experience in business, nonprofit, or government entity in Eagle Pass, TX, and its surrounding community.

BEDC Leadership-Eagle Pass is a yearlong advanced leadership program that will be opened to 20 qualified candidates annually.  Members of the BEDC Leadership-Eagle Pass will participate in 12 full-day sessions throughout the year (one session per month).  BEDC Leadership-Eagle Pass will provide participants unique exposure to every major industry in the Eagle Pass region and encourage citizenship, leadership, and service.  Prior to graduation of this highly selected program, BEDC Leadership-Eagle Pass participants will agree to join a civic organization, such as; Rotary, Lions, Knights of Columbus, etc., and develop an approved community service project for the betterment of the Eagle Pass region.

Executive Leaders Mentorship (ELM) will provide participants unique exposure to top level executives and business owners in every major industry in the Eagle Pass region and encourage citizenship, leadership, and service.  Prior to graduation of this highly selective program, BEDC ELM participants will agree to join a civic organization, such as; Rotary, Lions, Knights of Columbus, etc., and develop an approved community service project for the City of Eagle Pass.  ELM participants will participate in twelve luncheon workshops throughout the year beginning in January.  Each monthly luncheon will be theme based and geared towards professional development.

“I am excited about these three new opportunities that the BEDC is undertaking,” says BEDC Chairman Morris Libson.  “Each of these programs stress collaborative efforts, which is at the core of the BEDC mission,” adds Libson.
