Maverick County has voted in favor of submitting formal proposals for the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS)  used by law enforcement agencies in the United States for collecting and reporting data on crimes; local, state and federal agencies generate NIBRS data from their records management systems.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department was awarded a grant for the system, which was approved to file formal proposals from companies that provide such services during a meeting held on Tuesday November 14.

Commissioners Court Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber and MCSO Grant Writer Ignacio Saucedo presented information on the grant and the NIBRS to the court.

“We’re trying to upgrade and this system will allow us to do so. The programs are a little complicated, but they should make it much easier for our dispatchers and department to continue working effectively,” said Schmerber. “This is a $103,000 award and its an update to our regular system, and its to fall into compliance with laws in Texas by the year 2020. This is fully reimbursable. This is the seventh grant that the Sheriff Department has received this year for a total of $450,000.”

The Maverick County Commissioners Court approved the agenda item. Commissioner of Pct. 4 Roberto Ruiz was conducting the meeting as Judge David Saucedo was not present.
