The Eagle Pass News Gram was fortunate enough to talk to Kevin Brewer, Head Coach of the McAllen High Bulldogs, who will be coming into town with their banners waving and their team riding a two game winning streak that launched them into the State Playoffs.

Coach Brewer said that at their last game, they knocked off the Mission Eagles by a score of 34-27 where three of their most outstanding offensive players scored for the purple and gold. Senior Running Back Roy Gutierrez (5' 10", 175 Lbs.) scored on a short run, as did sophomore Quarterback Aaron Nixon (5' 10", 175) on a seven yard keeper. Their D-1 commit Gunnar Henderson (a 5' 9" 170 Lb.) Wide Receiver scored on a 10 yard slant against the Eagles.

When asked how their season has been going thus far, Brewer was quick to say that they have been hit hard by mid-season injuries. "First of all, it's been a crazy week. We've been through a lot. We had a stretch where we lost three district ball games in a row where we were banged up as heck with critical injuries,” said Brewer. “In the last two weeks we got some players back and we've shown some consistency on both sides of the ball."

His team is fired up about the promise of coming into this game against the Eagles. "Now we've got the opportunity to get in and we're excited about the prospect," said Brewer.

On defense the Bulldogs will line up senior Defensive Tackle Gerry Lopez (5' 9" 240 Lbs.), senior Linebacker Wilber Murillo (5' 10", 190 Lbs.) and senior Cornerback Nathan Godinez (5' 9", 175 Lbs.).

Brewer closed with praise for the Eagle Pass Eagles. "Eagle Pass is a very impressive football team on film. They're very talented, they have good size and good speed. They're well-coached and are a very impressive looking football team on film."

The Eagles and the Bulldogs will  battle this Friday for the Bi-District Championship at 7:30 p.m. at Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.
