The CC Winn Mavericks were playing for playoff seeding and a possible share of the District 29-AAAAA crown on Friday at Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium and squaring off against a formidable foe, the Floresville Tigers who managed to come from behind late to take away a close 28-20 victory.

The Mavericks would strike first early when quarterback Ethan Johnston would find Wide Receiver Jose Blanco on a long touchdown connection to put the home team up early 7-0 after the Ernesto Fuentes PAT.
Running Back Luis Rodriguez would be a big part of another Maverick scoring drive getting it to the Tiger two yard-line and then pound it in for the second Mav score, 14-0 CC Winn.
After a short kick off the Tigers started off at their own 41 and after a seventeen yard run and a pass to the Maverick 23, a short run and a slant to Bradley Perry, the Tigers were in business at the Maverick four.
Then Running Back Salih Williams dove into the end zone for the initial Tiger score. The PAT was good, 14-7 Mavericks.
It was Luis Olvera who would put the Silver & Black even further ahead on a perfectly executed reverse, however the extra point was no good and the Mavericks would go up 20-7.
But Running Back Kane Numera would score with 2:36 remaining in the half to creep up on the scoreboard 20-14 before the half.
The Tigers would strike first in the second half when Quarterback Darian Mayberry found Wide Receiver Colton Payne alone for the Tiger touchdown, after the extra point, Floresville would be up 21-20 and the Tigers would seal the deal with a touchdown by Salih Williams with 5:42 remaining in the game.
With Harlandale and McCollum losing on Friday, the Maverick s have clinched a playoff spot in the 5-A Division I bracket according to Coach Eric Villaseñor, "Our opponent will be Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at this point. Site, time and place will be determined this week."
The Mavericks close out the 2017 Regular Season at Uvalde on Friday.
