Registration period for 2018 Maverick County elections approaches

The registration period for the 2018 Maverick County elections in  March is fast approaching.

Anyone interested in running for the many positions up for grabs will have approximately 30 days to register starting in November 11 and closing on December 11 at 5:00 P.M.

In total there will be 17 positions up for election including the 293rd and 365th Judicial District Court Judgeship. 

Longtime and respected District Judge Cynthia Muniz will not be seeking re-election. Local attorneys Maribel Flores and Cecilia Mascorro will be seeking the elected position. 

For the 365th Judicial District Court Judgeship, incumbent District Judge Amado J. Abascal, III, is expected to seek his re-election.  

Incumbent Representative for District 74 Poncho Nevarez is expected to seek his re-election.  

One of the most hotly contested races expected will be for the Maverick County Judge position as Judge David R. Saucedo has stated that he will be seeking re-election but is expected to be challenged by Gloria Hernandez who is leaving her position as city council member to run in the county judge election. 

Rosy Cantu is also expected to seek re-election for the County Commissioner Precinct 2 position and has already drawn a competitor as Ariana Perez has announced her intention to run for the position. 

Roberto Ruiz will be seeking to continue serving as Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 4 by running for re-election. Only time will tell if anyone signs up to challenge Ruiz for the position. 

In the Maverick County District Clerk race, incumbent Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma will seek to be re-elected.  

For Maverick County Clerk, Sara Montemayor is also expected to seek re-election to a new four year term. 

In the Maverick County Treasurer race, Rito J. Valdez, III is also seeking his re-election.

It’s unknown at this point how many of this positions will have other people signing up to run for the positions available.   

The Maverick County Justice of the Peace positions for Precincts 1, 2. 3-AB, 3C and 4.  

The Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson position will also be up for election.
