The Board went into executive session to discuss and consult the matter with Legal Counsel Alex Fuller.
Once back in open session MCHD Board President Adolfo Olivares asked if any board member had a recommendation or motion to consider and either discuss or put up for a vote.
MCHD Trustee Becky Robinson stated that she had a motion for the board to consider.
“I move that we go ahead and participate on the IGT(Uncompensated Care) only with the funds that are available in the account right now, and it all depends on the response that MCHD gets on October 16 and the result of the payment,” said Robinson
Robinson’s motion was seconded by Trustee Jesus Casas.
The motion was put up for discussion which had none and was then voted on and approved on a unanimous vote.
At current time the MCHD and FDRMC are in negotiations as working partners over certain issues that have been brought up in recent years including district seeking to be able to decrease the amount paid to FDRMC under the Uncompensated Care Agreement due to a decrease in patients and other issues that are being ironed out between both agencies. Many of these negotiations are occurring behind closed doors under laws that allow for contractual negotiations to be conducted in such manner.
In 2000 the Maverick County Hospital District sold its Hospital to Universal Health Services, Inc., a private for profit hospital. The individuals in charge of the MCHD back then entered into a 25 year agreement that is now being carefully looked at by both parties in a negotiating standoff.
