Eagle Pass celebrated the first ever LGBTQ pride parade and festival hosted by the organization Eagle Pass S.A.F.E. or Sexuality Advocacy For Everyone.

“It’s a celebration of inclusion and diversity. Growing up here [in Eagle Pass] I’ve seen that all my life, the inclusion and diversity between both countries, Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, and just the love and support that the people have all around,” said SAFE President Elias Diaz in a previous interview. “I want to bring that to the LGBT people; I want to extend that theme that’s already present in the Eagle Pass community and extend that to people of sexual diversity.”

The historic event entitled “Love Without Borders” was attended by several city dignitaries including Mexican Consul Ismael Naveja Macias, County Judge David Saucedo and Commissioner Rosy Cantu, Mayor Ramsey English Cantu, and   dozens of locals who came out to support the LGBTQ community.

The festivities included a parade down main street and a proclamation ceremony and talent show at the Plaza San Juan. Redeemer Episcopal Church was kind enough to open their doors to those who needed to change for performances.
