It's time for The Eagle Pass News Gram's weekly Player Of The Week feature as the Mavericks came away with their first district win of the season over the McCollum Cowboys 27-14 on Thursday, and the Eagles get ready to take on the pesky South San Bobcats at 2-0 in District 29-AAAAAA play.

First up is a repeat offender, Maverick Linebacker Mikey De Los Santos who was flying to the football all night long, getting after McCollum QB Ryan Ramirez.

Who do you consider to be your biggest influences? (Could be your parents, but also include a professional player or national figure)

I consider my mom my biggest influence, she's been there since the start, she's very supportive, and you can't put a limit for the love she has for me. I love you Mom.

What are your goals this season?

My goal this season is to win district this year. We're the defending champs and we want to repeat as champs and we want to repeat as champs this year again.

Who's your favorite NFL team?

The Dallas Cowboys.

College team?

The Texas Longhorns.

What's your favorite play and why? (Give me a good long one)

My favorite play to defend is Power Right and Power Left. I like reading the quarterbacks and running backs eyes and making the tackle in the end.

What are your plans after graduation?

I want to attend Texas State.

Major?

I want to study criminal justice and hope to one day work for customs or the US Border Patrol.

What does it feel like to come out of the tunnel? What do you feel when you hear the fight song?

I feel pumped and ready to go, and when the fight song comes on, that's when the goose bumps start kicking in. It's just an amazing feeling.

Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time.

Just never give up and always trust the process. You guys are the future of this program, and before you know it, you'll be shining under the Friday Night Lights.

Next up is Eagle Wide Receiver Norby Zapata who informed The News Gram that he would go all out on Friday against the Bobcats who are coming off heartbreaking losses to United South 34-33 and United 14-7.

Who do you consider to be your biggest influences? (Could be your parents, but also include a professional player or national figure)

My family, my parents and God. I look out for my parents mostly my dada because he's taught me a lot. They are a big motivation for me. Professionally, I look up to Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots. because the way he plays the game is so great. He's small, but he plays the game like I do.

What are your goals this season?

To go to playoffs and to hopefully be district champs.

Who's your favorite NFL team?

The New England Patriots.

College team?

Ohio State.

What's your favorite play and why? (Give me a good long one)

Zone Right Bubble because you build confidence with your receiver because you know he's blocking for you and you can easily run that route without fear.

What are your plans after graduation?

Go to college and seek the medical field. If I'm lucky enough, play college football.

Major?

Biology.

What does it feel like to come out of the tunnel? What do you feel when you hear the fight song?

It feels great. You get to see the stands full of the people you are representing. You feel pumped and ready to play. When I hear the fight song it gets you going and makes you want to do something good.

Finally, give me some advice to a seventh grader playing football for the first time.

Don't take this game for granted. The game of life will bring a lot of lessons. Be coachable.
