(Austin, TX – October 12, 2017) The Office of the Texas Workforce Commissioner on Labor Julian Alvarez announced this week that

Commissioner Alvarez will visit the City of Eagle Pass on Friday, October 20, 2017, during a workshop at the International Center for Trade, at 10 a.m. EMC Strategy Group, LLC, had been in communication with the Commissioner’s Office since July and had met with Commissioner Alvarez twice last summer. Commissioner Alvarez will meet with Eagle Pass City Leadership and representatives from the Eagle Pass BEDC, Workforce Solutions Middle Rio Grande, Middle Rio Grande Development Council, Eagle Pass ISD, and Southwest Texas Junior College.

“We are very excited to have Commissioner Alvarez visit the City of Eagle Pass and I know that the BEDC Labor Workforce Sub-Committee, led by Terri Patlan-Contreras, and the EMC team have been working aggressively to get the Commissioner to visit our city,” says Eagle Pass BEDC Chairman Morris Libson.

Commissioner Alvarez was reappointed by Governor Greg Abbott last Spring and will serve until February 1, 2023. During his visit he will discuss funding and training program opportunities to help strengthen the city’s local workforce, which can help make the City of Eagle Pass more competitive to outside industry. The Eagle Pass BEDC has incorporated several strategies to help improve the local and regional economic conditions through its ten standing committees. The Labor Workforce & Training Sub-Committee is one of the key committees charged with working through collaborative efforts by identifying and utilizing State and Federal resources to train and prepare our local workforce.

“Commissioner Alvarez’s visit is yet another example of the good work being done by the volunteers of the BEDC,” says Mayor Ramsey English-Cantu. “I have been in regular contact with BEDC Chairman Morris Libson and the EMC Staff and have reinforced the importance of everyone working together as a team to harness all available State and Federal resources for the economic prosperity of the City of Eagle Pass and its citizens,” adds Mayor English-Cantu.

After the two-hour workshop, Commissioner Alvarez will make an appearance at the Eagle Pass BEDC Retail Career/Job Fair, at the Mall de las Aguilas, which will take place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
