“The narrative has been that a climate change policy will kill jobs and limit energy freedom. While that’s certainly true of some regulatory approaches, it doesn’t have to be. If done right, I and many other conservatives believe we can manage climate risks while making the market freer and improving energy choice. That’s a win-win-win,” says Bryn.
The visit is one stop of a tour across Congressman Will Hurd’s district, dubbed the “TX-23 Energy Freedom Tour,” named for Hurd’s district. The tour is intended to engage citizens and leaders in a productive discussion with their communities and with Rep. Hurd.
“Rep. Hurd’s vast district is home to refining giants Valero and Andeavour (formerly Tesoro) as well as an important pipeline corridor. It also is one of the worst-hit regions of the country for temperature increases and on the front-lines of border crossings from Mexico, which could reasonably be expected to increase as temperatures rise to the south. All of these reasons put Rep. Hurd’s constituents front and center in a discussion on climate and energy policy,” said local CCL Uvalde Group Leader, Tom Smith.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a grassroots advocacy organization with over 340 chapters across the U.S. that is generating political will to manage climate change risk. The group is working with both political parties to create a carbon fee that returns all of the revenue to households, thereby not growing government while allowing the market to find the most cost-effective ways to reduce emissions.
