Mellissa Rendon from HEB welcomed the group who were accompanied by their parents and the pack leadership.
The field trip was the closing chapter of one of several Webelos required adventures named "Cast Iron Chef". In the required adventure the group learned how to provide a balanced meal, how to prepare a menu, determine the budget for the meal, and shared healthy snacks provided by the parents. Webelos parent Manrique Fuentes Jr., Nutritionist, addressed the scouts on portion serving and the MyPlate menu. Together they learned how to build a campfire by using wood, kindle, and tinder and how to set up a camp stove. The local HEB field trip put the golden pin to the required adventure by giving the group a tour of the four food groups (produce dept. bread and grains, dairy, and the market where they learned about the different types of meat, fish, and other protein products.)
These tours are available are available for schools, grades Pre - K to 6th grade or any other organization interested in educating their children on smart healthy choices that will assist in living a healthy life.
The Webelos would like to thank HEB. For any information on the tours call Melissa Rendon at (830) 773-0345, email them at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or go to their website for more information at www.fieldtripfactory.com
