The Maverick band came home champions not once but twice this past weekend.
The Mavericks brought home a first place trophy from the Rocket Review Marching Festival which was held in Judson ISD’s Rutledge Stadium. And while most school bands would have stopped there, the Mavericks forged ahead towards Austin to perform the Capital City Marching Festival held at the Toney Burger Center.
We knew they carried on their shoulders and in their hands not only instruments, flags, and hours of practice, but also the support of their parents, school, and hometown. For the first time the Capital City competition was hosting a live video stream of each school’s performance and viewers would be able to vote for their respective schools, at stake---a coveted People’s Choice Award. This competition was a matter of pride.
The Mavericks had the musical prowess, the discipline, the commitment, and on October 07, 2017, they showed Austin they had the love of their community.
Thanks to the people of Eagle Pass and Winn alumni, the Mavericks won the People’s Choice Award with well over 300 votes over any other band in the contest. Thanks to the hard work and artistry instilled in them by their directors and their own talent and constituency—the first place trophy was theirs.
In all the C.C. Winn Maverick Band brought home two 1st place trophies on Saturday, winning 1st place in their division at the Capital City Marching Festival, 1st place Color Guard, 2nd place percussion, and the People’s Choice Award.
