The Eagle Pass Independent School District Police Department received an emergency call from staff members at the EPISD District Offices located on 1420 Eidson Rd. at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Saturday morning in regards to a suspicious metal box that contained an explosive device.
Law enforcement officials including EPISD ,EPPD , TxDPS and the Eagle Pass Fire Department responded to the area.
Upon arrival a box described as a military style ammunition box was found with what is being described as a grenade type explosive device.
EPISD police secured the area around the school district main offices.
A law enforcement official stated that the matter is of a very serious nature and is being handled in the most professional manner to assure the safety of all involved.
At around 1 p.m. the Laredo Police Department Bomb Squad arrived at the scene and proceeded to detonate and dispose of the device. The device was reported to have been a replica grenade and not a live explosive.
Law enforcement officials are taking this matter very seriously because of the nature of the issue and what could be seen as a threat against EPISD employees.
There was a note left behind stating ”Mijares, Superintendent Pull Please."
