Cecilia A. Mascorro announces her candidacy for 293rd State District Court Judge

   Cecilia A. Mascorro formally announced her candidacy for 293rd State District Court Judge, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 5:35 p.m. in front of the Maverick County Courthouse.  

   Attorney and Prosecutor Cecilia A. Mascorro was joined by her husband Mexican Consulate Officer Alejandro Alvarez-Venegas, their cherished two year old son Kenneth Alexander Alvarez-Mascorro, many relatives, friends, and members of the community at large.

As a child Cecilia attended Redeemer Episcopal School and San Luis Elementary. Cecilia went to Memorial Jr. High and is a 1998 honors graduate of Eagle Pass High School.  She went on to study International Relations and Journalism at the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications, in 2002.  

Cecilia continued her academic goal to become an attorney and earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence (law degree) at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, in 2006. She is licensed to practice law by the by Supreme Court of Texas, in Austin. 

   Since 2006, Cecilia has had the opportunity to work in law firms in cities like San Francisco, Dallas, and San Antonio. Cecilia is the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Prosecuting Attorney and the Indian Child Welfare Attorney.  Cecilia maintains an active practice in the Texas State Courts, and of course in her home town of Eagle Pass, as well.

   As a prosecutor Cecilia has handled hundreds of criminal cases and as a child welfare attorney, Cecilia has vast experience in dealing with crimes against children.

   Cecilia has devoted her life to public service and has been an active member of the community. Cecilia is an active supporter of the Eagle Pass Children’s Library for the advancement of children’s literacy, Pet Companion Organization, Eagle Pass Boys Baseball, Miss Eagle Pass Pageants, and formally served on the Eagle Pass Animal Grievance Board.

She currently serves as the Government Relations Chairman for the Eagle Pass Business & Economic Development Committee, and is also a member of the Eagle Pass Rotary Club, and Eagle Pass Independent School District Foundation.

During her official announcement and in spite of the storm which had just passed, Cecilia A. Mascorro expressed with a resonating voice:

 “Today I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Judge of the 293rd District Court.

   Being elected to the judiciary is an enormous responsibility. Civil or criminal judgments can have far-reaching implications.  As a judge, I will commit to integrity and strive that the scales of justice are fair and not swayed by popular opinions.  Everyone that comes before my court will be treated with absolute fairness, no matter their social or economic background.

   As judge I will keep an open line of communication between the court and the public, attorneys, probation officers, CPS case workers, and law enforcement by using the latest forms of technology, to ensure the highest levels of court room efficiency.  

I am committed to being an accessible judge and keeping the court open to suggestions through an open-door policy. 

I will take budget considerations very seriously and will tailor my administration’s salaries and size, in accordance to the needs of our community. I will insure that my administration have a modern and excellent bi-lingual customer service to all. We will work to consolidate cases, make prompt rulings in a way that the court will be most efficient and practical for both the public and attorneys.  I will be fair, by equally by distributing court appointments amongst the local attorneys in the three counties.  

I vow to protect our children and our citizens!
