The local group has spoken with a mobile clinic from San Antonio that has agreed to make a two day stop in Eagle Pass, and conduct Spay and Neuter procedures on 40 animals a day-all free to the community. Project Companion is now in the fundraising stages of the event. This Saturday the group will be on the corner of Main and Bibb collecting change from 9am-1pm. The group has also started selling tickets for an iPad2 raffle. It costs $5,000 along with the expenditure of hotel stays and meals for the clinic staff; however, the benefits of the effort outweigh that cost. “Five years down the road, approximately 65,000 unwanted kittens and puppies will not crowd the pound destined for Public Work’s inhumane make-shift gas chamber, or wandering around our streets…this clinic will help increase the standard of living within the city” said ProCo President Sarah Salinas. Project COMPANION organized in 2007, after the Rosita Valley Tornado displaced several animals from their families and the group worked to find them new homes. ProCo became recognized by the State in 2008 as an official non-profit organization. The mission of the group has not “strayed” at all, which is to provide the citizens of Maverick County and Eagle Pass the knowledge to ensure every animal receives responsible care.
