The Eagle Pass Rotary Club, along with Mall De Las Aguilas, hosted a demonstrative event on Wednesday, August 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. that presented the public with a ready made shelter that could save lives during an emergency.

Eagle Pass Rotary Club President Sandra Ruiz introduced the ShelterBox organization, who installed the emergency kit ShelterBox.

Rotarians present were Sandra Ruiz, Martha Garcia, John and Carol Sullivan, Roberto Mireles, Rachel Draeger, Claudia Oyervidez and ShelterBox Representative Cathy Willever.

The piece of equipment is made by ShelterBox USA, and is used during severe emergencies. It expands into living quarters with essentials such as a kitchen, and can hold up to two families.

“ShelterBox provides the tools to start the process of recovery in a natural disaster or any other  horrendous incident,” said Rodriguez. “We will be partnering with ShelterBox to assure we have these types of emergency kits in our community.”

Rodriguez said the Rotary Club is in the process of purchasing a ShelterBox and will continue trying to raise funds to be able to obtain as many as possible.
