The Eagle Pass Fire Department held a live fire drill on Saturday, July 22, alongside six elements from the Piedras Negras Fire Department near the city’s water filtration plant on Jefferson Street.

The department conducted fire safety training, which consisted of a live fire set on an abandoned house began at 9:00 a.m.

EPFD Fire Chief Manuel Mello, along with Assistant Fire Chief Rodolfo Cardona, directed the entire operation, going through different procedures including “man down,” a technique used among fire departments when an officer is hurt in the line of duty.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. the home structure was completely engulfed in flames, allowing firefighters to practice vital techniques when confronting fires in our community.

A number of the residential properties in the area are set for demolition after being acquired by Eagle Pass Water Works for expansion of their Water Treatment Facility plant.

The Eagle Pass Fire Department took advantage of the opportunity to use one of these homes for training purposes before it was torn down.
