Hector Gonzalez Rodriguez III was born in Maverick County, a short distance from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, where two worlds are intertwined in many ways, including culturally and socio-economically.

Rodriguez moved with his family when he was 9 years old, but never forgets where he comes from. On a daily basis Rodriguez visits the border through El Peso Hero, a comic book character that he created based on border region living.

Rodriguez’s first volume of comic books is a depiction of real life along the Texas Border region where drug trafficking and corrupt political systems are part of life.

El Peso Hero is a Mexican Superhero that tackles the challenges that people who live in the Mexican-US border face. The character confronts  narcos, corrupt politicians, social injustices, but most importantly is used to do away with a stigma and misrepresentation of the Hispanic community in mainstream media.

Rodriguez created his comic superhero to give Hispanic children along the border a character that they could relate to.

Rodriguez’s character battles everything from drug runners and corrupt border patrol, and helps children from falling into drug activity, and  immigrants navigate the border safely.

Rodriguez continues pushing forth in bringing widespread attention to his comic book characterization of border life. His efforts have warranted international attention, and he has been featured as a guest at the Dallas, Texas Comic Con that garners up to 25,000 visitors. Rodriguez has also been interviewed by major media outlets such as CNN, Univision’s Somos Metroplex, Telemundo, Fusion, TV Azteca, and many other media sites worldwide.

His story has even resulted in an Emmy Award for best news story by news anchor Angel Pedre from Univision in 2013.
