The City of Eagle Pass held a public meeting at City Hall geared towards the youth of the community, and anyone who practices the sport of skateboarding, on Wednesday, July 12.

During the meeting, representatives of Spohn Ranch Skateparks met with approximately 19 young members of the community to get their  input into the design of one of the city’s upcoming park projects.

Representatives of Spohn Ranch and local youth were enthusiastic about the event and the new skate park, which will be adapted to a more modernized experience.

The construction of the new skate park has an estimated cost of $375,000 and will be located in the Flowers Street area.

Spohn Ranch Skateparks is founded by President Aaron Spohn who has years of experience from his years skateboarding to building his first skate ramps in in the early 1970’s.

Spohn’s passion for skateboarding has allowed them to work with various major organizations including ESPN designing and building for the X Games.

Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu said that the city continues trying to provide for everyone in the community, including the local youth.

“We are excited about expanding service opportunities in our Parks and Recreation system,” said Mayor Cantu. “We are looking forward to breaking ground on this project soon and will further move on our future state and city funded recreation center. This project will be located on the south side of Eagle Pass that includes a new gym walking trails and basketball courts. These are exciting times for Eagle Pass.”
