Four schools were on lockdown after law enforcement officials were called to the San Juan Street area for an attempted suicide. What would eventually be a 4 hour standoff between local law enforcement and the obviously troubled man, culminated when the man shot himself in the chest area with a .38 caliber weapon.

Upon hearing of the onset of the situation, EPISD Police proceeded to inform the four schools in the surrounding areas of the potentially violent situation and administrators at these schools went into  'Lockdown' mode.

Police Chief Tony Castaneda as well as County Sheriff Tomas Herrera both made contact with the individual and were able to maintain a dialogue with the man for over an hour. Even after numerous attempts to reason with him, the man shot himself while sitting in his vehicle outside of his residence.

Little official information has been granted but the man was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center immediately after the shooting where he later died. He was later identified as Jaime Moreno. According to reports the man is an employee at the GEO Detention Center and left work early for unknown reasons.  More information to follow as soon as it is made available.
