An Eagle Pass Police Officer was led on a chase by a man who had stolen merchandise from Walmart Monday afternoon.

The thief, identified as 35-year-old Dusty Lee Curtis, ran out of the store and into a 2007 Black Lincoln pick up truck, despite efforts from Walmart personnel to keep him from leaving.

A police officer in the area between Kohl’s and Walmart at the time received the call from Walmart and chased Curtis out of the Walmart parking lot and onto Bibb Street, until he eventually turned on the Street between Whataburger and Falcon Bank, said EPPD Public Information Officer Beto Garza.

Curtis was charged for evading arrest, and then in the course of the investigation of the theft , it turns out that he stole a little over $2,000 in assorted merchandise from Walmart including electronics, clothing, and food, said Garza.

Curtis was magistrated Monday and given a $25,000 bond for evading arrest, and a $6,000 bond for  charge of theft over $700 but less than $2500.
