A family of four managed to get out safely after a minor fire broke out in their home Thursday morning.

The Eagle Pass Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a residence on Erica Street in La Heradura subdivision.

On arrival fire fighters determined the fire was out and that there was minor damage to a bedroom within the residence, said Assistant Fire Chief Rodolfo Cardona.

“No extinguishment was necessary, it was already out, so all they did was extract the smoke that was in the residence, made sure all the occupants were ok, and then the investigators were called in to determine the origin and cause,” said Cardona.

The fire was determined to have originated in a bedroom, but the cause is still being investigated.

The family of two adults and two children were not injured.

The incident at the residence follows a series of minor grass fires that occurred on the Fourth of July.

All six of the grass fires were in the county area, said Cardona, and none of them required additional investigation as  they were all related to fireworks.

“We do ask the community to take precautions because of the heat waves we’re under. We need them to avoid any outdoor burning,” said Cardona. “Some people do controlled burns, so we want them to avoid that in the meantime due to the heat waves and dryness of vegetation right now.”
