The Eagle Pass Police Department joined law enforcement across the state Friday morning by honoring fellow officers fallen in the line of duty.

By order of Governor Greg Abbott, Texas law enforcement officers were asked to pull over at 10:00 a.m. and turn on their overhead lights for a minute of silence.

“Respect for our law enforcement officials must be restored in this nation,” said Governor Abbott in a press release. “It is our officers who stand between us and all that threatens, and we must stand behind them by sending a clear message that attacks on our men and women in blue will not be tolerated. I ask that all Texans come together to show our appreciation for those who keep us safe.”

The tribute is in memory of San Antonio Police Officer Miguel Moreno, who was killed in a shooting in downtown San Antonio last week; as well as Officers Brent Thompson, Michael Smith, Michael Krohl, Patrick Zamarripe, and Lorne Ahrens who were killed by a sniper in Dallas one year ago.

Additionally, Governor Abbott spoke atended and spoke at the funeral of Officer Moreno on Friday.
