The event will be held along the banks of the Rio Grande River as part of festivities organized by the Main Street program and the EP Parks and Recreations Department. Over 30 participants are expected to take part in the competitive race.
Main Street Director Joe J. Cruz and Event Organizer Jesse Fuentes invite the community to participate in the race or join the festivities in honor of Independence Day. Fuentes and Cruz have been planning the event for months and are looking forward to hosting a larger crowd than they did at the first ever kayak and canoe race last year.
They hope the race becomes a Fourth of July tradition in Eagle Pass, as it will help promote tourism in the area, and more importantly allow people to see the beauty of the Rio Grande River.
The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the last race will be at 1:30 p.m. Cost to enter is $10 per person. All children under 18 need their parent’s permission. Epi’s Kayak Team will have kayaks and canoes available at the event. Prizes will be given for first, second, and third place. To register contact Jessie Fuentes at (830) 776-3116
