A difference of $3.46 in 2016 and stiff competition at the pump clearly show that heading into the Fourth of July prices of gas will remain steady, allowing for people to hit the highway and travel without worrying about an increase from one day to the next.
As of June 30 prices around Eagle Pass were unchanged and marked at $2.17 per gallon of unleaded gas. During the month of June gas had been averaging between $2.15 to $2.17 per gallon of unleaded gas with many of the gas stations matching prices in order to compete with other vendors.
One gas station manager said they follow a nearby competitor’s pricing.
“We keep it at the same amount that they do even if we lose a little at the back end of it,” said the station manager. “We need people to drive in to our convenience store and buy so we keep the gas prices reasonable in accordance to activity within the other gas filling places.”
Oil activity in the region dropped in 2016 due to the price per barrel going below a reasonable profit making price. Experts in the field are predicting that the flow is coming back around, and will increase South Texas oil activity in the Eagle Ford Shale soon.
