Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon said in the past two weeks there have been six arrests of individuals on charges of burglary.
“Those arrests vary from burglary of vehicles, habitation, building and all kinds,” said De Leon. “We’re having a problem with these types of crimes, and are urging the community to be careful. I know that in the past month we have recovered over $60,000 worth of stolen property as our department is doing everything they can, patrolling the streets and investigating this crimes.”
De Leon reports that on Monday, June 25, there were two examples of the problem that Maverick County is currently encountering including the burglary of a habitation in the 2900 block of Lindbergh Circle, and the arrest of Jorge Alberto De Leon for possession of a stolen item and a shotgun as well.
De Leon states that the department continues investigating many cases on a daily basis, and continue recuperating stolen items and evidence to find the person(s) responsible for the crimes.
“We want to assure the safety of our community and ask for community members to be careful with your belongings and to report any suspicious activity,” said De Leon.
A review of the Maverick County Sheriff Department arrest reports for the past 2.5 years shows that there have been 52 arrests for theft and 21 arrests for burglaries in that time
Daily complaint reports show that during the same time period there have been approximately 42 burglaries of a habitations, vehicles, or building, and 50 theft cases reported by the sheriff department. Many of the cases remain unsolved and continue to be investigated by the department which is establishing patterns of crime and other logistics necessary to mount patrolling strategies in an effort to prevent further crimes.
