“Some of the issues were fixed and one of the main ones needed to go through the court to get approvals and proceed,” said Schmerber. “That has been done and we’re in compliance.”
Schmerber stated that the detention facility was in no risk of being closed down by the TCJS.
In accordance to information from the TCJS website, detention facilities that are found in some form of non-compliance are put on a list that is displayed on the TCJS official website page until the facility comes into compliance.
As of June 12, 2017 the Maverick County jail facility remains on that list of non-compliant jails.
The jail facility was found to have problems during an April inspection, and Schmerber was notified that the issues needed to be corrected from the moment the inspection report and citations were issued.
The Maverick County Commissioners Court has approved everything necessary to bring the facility to compliance in previous meetings.
Schmerber stated that the TCJS had been notified of the fixes, and the county now waits to be taken off the TCJS list of non-compliant facilities.
