   C. C. Winn High School Maverick standout student athletes, Mary Chelo Flores and Erick Lopez were chosen by the Major League Baseball Houston Astros Foundation and Minute Maid to receive the 2017 Minute Maid Grand Slam for Youth Scholarship in the amount of $5,000.

Lopez and Flores will attend a reception put together by the baseball organization and both will also participate in a pre-game field presentation during the Houston Astros versus Boston Red Sox baseball game on Saturday June 17, 2017.

Both Flores and Lopez were all around standouts during their time at C.C Winn High School, both scholastically and athletically.

Flores played softball from her freshman year through her senior year collecting various awards including honors in the All- District Softball 29-5 A.

Lopez was also an outstanding baseball player for the C.C. Winn Mavericks where he was named to the 2017 District 29-5A Honorable Mention Baseball Team.

Since Minute Maid Grand Slam For Youth Baseball started the scholarship program in 2005, 261 scholarships and grants have been awarded, totaling $700,000.
