The Eagle Pass City Council discussed the status of the Eagle Pass Public Library renovation during the city council meeting held on Tuesday, June 6.

Eagle Pass City Councilman Rudy Villalpando brought up the topic during the departmental reports portion of the meeting.

Eagle Pass City Manager Arturo B. Rodriguez stated that the completion was weeks away due to certain setbacks which included the wiring for internet and computers.

“The next two weeks will be fully dedicated to getting the flooring done, and cabling to enable the hook up of computers,” said Rodriguez. “Those are the two main reasons why we haven’t opened up.Within the next two weeks we can get a date to say we are going to open up.”

The reason for the delay in cabling for internet and computers was that it was not part of the contract with the renovation company, so a design for the wiring is currently being agreed upon, said Rodriguez.

“When we first started out I made some comments that the library would be state of the art, but when we’re putting in things after the fact it doesn’t seem its going to be that kind of a library,” said Villalpando.
