From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the public was invited to fish at the lake, no license necessary, and enjoy a free lunch donated by McDonalds and Walmart. Children also had the opportunity to compete for first, second, and third place trophies for largest fish caught.
The Lions Club donated approximately 600 pounds of fish for the event. Event Chairman Rudy Garza said the lake had not been stocked in almost four years, prompting the Lions Club to donate the fish that were brought from Victoria, Texas. The donation cost them close to $2,000, which came from funds raised during Noches Mexicanas, which the Lion’s Club hosted.
Garza said everyone was proud to offer an event that allows the community to get away from their electronics and reconnect with nature.
