The Lions Club of Eagle Pass restocked the Maverick County Lake with approximately 600 pounds of fish on Thursday, in preparation for a fishing event held over the weekend.

Event Chairman Rudy Garza said the lake had not been stocked in almost four years, prompting the Lions Club to donate the fish that were brought from Victoria, Texas. The donation cost them close to $2,000, which came from funds raised during Noches Mexicanas, which the Lion’s Club hosted.
Children and their families were invited to enjoy the restocking with an event Saturday in which participants would not need a fishing license. The event, scheduled to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. provided children with the opportunity to fish, and enjoy free hamburgers and hot dogs donated by Walmart.
Garza said the Lions Club, along with Maverick County, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and many volunteers, are proud to offer an event that allows the community to get away from their electronics and reconnect with nature.
