Athletic Director Edward Graf congratulated Rios on an accomplishment that so many high school athletes dream of.
“It’s always a great day when one of our athletes get to use their athletic ability to further their education,” said Graf. “I know you’ll do well in Bethel.”
Head Football Coach Eric Villaseñor was next to speak, recalling Rios’ dedication to his team, especially during the past season when the Mavericks made history after winning the Bi-District Championship, Area Championship, and Regional Semi-Finalists.
“He was a vital part of what we did this past year in 2016. He’s a special individual, what really stands out about him is the way he responds to tough situations. He always came up big when we needed him and we wish him nothing but the best,” said Villaseñor. “On behalf of CC Winn football staff, we want to congratulate Daniel and the Rios family. You raised a fine son. He’s going to be successful in anything that he chooses to do because of the family that he comes from. We’re proud of you.”
Rios’ parents thanked god for their son, as well as those who supported him throughout his athletic career.
The ceremony ended with words of gratitude from Rios before signing his letter of intent.
“I want to thank god for letting me be here, my parents for letting me play the sport, my sister, especially my brother who pushed me so hard, and all the coaches for helping me be the player I am today and the man I’m going to be soon,” said Rios.
