The event which will feature games, a DJ, food and refreshments, will focus on the awareness of teen pregnancy, dating abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, and sexual transmitted diseases. The information will be presented by the Better Future Youth Group.
Another very important and prevalent issue that will be discussed is bullying; a major contributor to low self esteem that could lead to social problems such as drug and alcohol abuse, teen dating abuse, and potential issues of self harm. The Juntos Podemos Program aims to addresses such issues, and provide a place where at risk youth can get the appropriate help for any problem they are dealing with.
Among the many issues that the MCHD has been tackling is bringing awareness to teen pregnancy, and finding to decrease the amount cases. Maverick County has among the highest Teen Pregnancy Rates across the United States.
