The annual event acknowledges local children who have completed the DARE program classes to resist drug use, alcohol abuse, and gang activity while providing fun activities throughout the day including boat rides, motorcycle rides, fishing.
EPISD DARE Officer Michael Torralba hosted the event and was joined by other law enforcement agencies in educating the attendees.
EPISD Chief of Police Joe Ramos was among those present supporting the DARE program, an educational tool that reaches thousands of children in the community on a yearly basis.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education also known as DARE seeks to prevent the use of controlled drugs amongst today’s teens as well as educating adolescents on alcohol, tobacco, and gangs. As students enter the program they sign a pledge not to use drugs or join gangs and are taught by local law enforcement officers about the dangers of drug use in an interactive in-school curriculum which lasts ten weeks.
EPISD would like to thank the many volunteers that helped make the event possible including Texas Game Wardens, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S.B.P. Explorers, Maverick County Constable Pct. 1 and Pct. 3AB, Commissioner Pct. 1 Jerry Morales, City of Eagle Pass Police Department, Hazel Diaz and Travis Hile, Gypsys MC, HEB, Peter Piper Pizza, and the many citizen volunteers that assisted in putting the event together.
