Flores, who will play softball with the school, has dedicated much of her life to the sport, and was surrounded by the friends, family, coaches, and school administration who supported her throughout her athletic career.
Among the coaches at the ceremony was CC Winn Head Softball Coach J.J. Iracheta, who thanked those who helped Flores achieve the accomplishment, and praised her for her dedication to the sport.
“She’s one of the first ones that’s going to set the tone for our future Lady Mavs. The coaches put in the long hours to help these young ladies achieve excellence on and off the field. It paid off,” said Iracheta. “Thank you coaches, her parents, and Cassandra, thank you very much. My second year here you were one of the players who, just by the way you carried yourself on the softball field, made it easier for me to show up and try my best, and you never gave us anything but the best. You showed the other ladies how to go out there and practice hard, and found a way to meet the challenges every Tuesday and Friday night. You played your heart out. Now I challenge you to keep working hard, and like I told you, you go over there, you fight for your spot, and most importantly, you get your education.”
Flores’ parents also had nothing but words of encouragement for their daughter, and gratitude for those who helped her along the way, especially the coaches that helped teach her everything she knows about the sport that she has excelled in.
“It’s a very emotional day for us today,” said her father. “Cassandra, i want to let you know that we’re very proud of you, me and your mom, your grandparents, and your brother and sister.”
Flores, who was named 2017 District 29-5A Softball Co-Most Valuable Player this year, was the last to speak before signing the letter.
“Thank you to everybody who is here to support me on this very special day, thank you to my parents who have always been there for me to guide me down the right path. It’s because of you that I am here today and I do what I do. I’m not done yet making you guys proud. I know we struggled a lot to get to this point, you struggled financially, and you guys always found a way to get me to the tournaments and I thank you for that. To my softball family I love you all, you guys are my sisters. To my coaches, thank you for always being there for me, I know I was tough at times, but you never left my side to push me to be the best I could be. To Coach Iracheta, thank you for everything, you were like a second dad to me, and I can’t thank you enough for everything you did for me. Tthank you for everything, i love you all,” said Flores. “This is one of the best seasons I’ve had my four years.”
