One person, who had not yet been identified at press time, was killed in the accident between a tractor trailer and a pick up truck.
Drivers experienced traffic delays as both northbound and southbound traffic as drivers were detoured to FM 1557. US 83 was reopened about two hours later.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
Another tragic accident involving a commercial vehicle occurred in Maverick County on Thursday May, 11 2017. Law enforcement officials and the Eagle Pass Fire Department responded to the accident on Highway 277, north of Elm Creek.
The accident involved a Ford Ranger and an 18 wheeler.
The driver of the Ford Ranger died as a result of the accident.
