Ramsey E Cantu re-elected as mayor of Eagle Pass

Eagle Pass City Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu was re-elected as mayor, and will continue to serve the community in the position for another four year term. 

 During the Saturday May 6, 2017 election, Mayor Cantu respectively secured 1,622 votes or 85 percent of the entire total votes cast during the city non-partisan election process. Cantu was being challenged by long time media communications personality Hector M. Mijares, who received 269 votes or 14 percent. 

 There were a total of 1,891 votes cast for mayor during the entire election process. 

 In the Council Member No.4 race, Luis Sifuentes was able to obtain 1,317 votes of the total count beating out challenger Romeo Fernandez who received 494 votes.

 City Councilman Place No. 2  and Mayor Pro-Tem Rudy Villalpando received 1,499 votes and will be serving his final four years as allowed by the Eagle Pass City Charter.

Mayor Cantu and Councilman Sifuentes will both be serving their final four years as well. 

Mayor Cantu has expressed interest in a possible future run for a state government position, while Villapando and Sifuentes could possibly seek another position as city officials, such as mayor. 

 Election day had a total of 5,201 people come out to vote, with 1,368 votes cast during the early voting period for a total vote count of 6,569.
